A man and a woman sit in a cafe in silence. Shot on 16mm, the rushes were developed by hand using a Lomo Tank, then digitised with a homemade scanner that was built for the purpose.

In 2024 I went on a motorbike trip around Africa. When I arrived in Lesotho I felt a special connection to the place. In Semonkong I spent some time with a shepherd called Thapelo. It was shearing season and when he showed me the shed where it all happened, I knew it was time to park my motorbike and pick up my camera.

It had been a long day, I'd been on the road since the early hours and it was well past lunch time, riding my motorcycle through thick fog. I was hungry and cold, my hands in particular, and for miles on end, no refuge in sight. At last I came across this restaurant, and as the soup warmed my bones I soaked in the the quiet vitality of the place. And I knew I had to make a film there.

In 2018 I was on a motorbike trip through Latin America. When I got to Cuenca in Ecuador, I spent an interesting night walking the streets of the city and felt inspired to try to recreate elements of that experience in a film. The cast was made up of people I met along the way, and all dialogue was improvised.
